*#Rally for Rivers

The rivers in India are all holy. Our Indus, Kosi, Saryu and Yamuna are sacred to us. They all play an important role in our agriculture and promote our trade. For Indian, a river is like a temple. And, what is more, it is our own mother.A mother, we know, has to suffer for her children. Our rivers have a similar fate. Eminent environmentalist and winner of the 2001 Raman Magsaysay award for community leadership, Rajendra Singh has said that if the Ganga isn’t saved then India won’t be saved either. And nothing is more true than his contention.

Lack of consciousness among people of India regarding significance of river is nowadays a universal phenomenon. No one cares about the health of a river and due to this; situation is becoming from bad to worse.

The latest numbers are saying our rivers have depleted by *40%to 60%* in one generation!! Can we stop and take a moment to think of what we are leaving behind for our children? A *water-less* planet!! What should be done? A nationwide intervention to *restore* our rivers. Who can do it? *Each one of us.* How? Register your support by a *missed call* on *8000980009* What will a missed call do? Sadhguru is rallying across 13 states to create awareness and will present a policy document to *Govt of India* on behalf of the people of India. The bigger the number of calls, the louder the voice of India. Read below to know more http://isha.sadhguru.org/rally-for-rivers/#moment-section When can we do it? *NOW* !! Spread out the word to everyone you know. Every single missed call matters!! *Let's save our rivers.

I DID MY BIT ...DID YOU ? on WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY....

Image result for world environment day quotes

World Environment Day (WED) is a campaign celebrated every year by the people worldwide on 5th of June. This campaign was established to raise the global awareness among people about the environmental issues as well as take positive environmental actions. It is handled by the United Nations Environment Programme and was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. It is a day to especially focus on the current environmental conditions to make environment better. It is celebrated by the people in more than 100 countries. It is the day when public and politicians get stimulated through awareness programs regarding environment to enhance the political attention as well as public actions. This day was created to promote people to work for environmental issues and become active agents of the sustainable and eco-friendly development worldwide.

On this World Environment Day 5th June, 2017, let us all, as individuals, Pause and Think! Pause, because it provides a break from what we are engaged with, at a given moment. It takes your mind away from the routine, and the thinking attached with it. It provides an opportunity for a fresh look. And fresh look is what we need to have on the practices we all follow as individuals that impact our environment negatively, and become aware of how can we adopt practices that are sustainable for the environment.
Do you fall in the category of those who are high on the list of contributors to environmental degradation? The answer by most of us might be a “no”, with a routine thinking mind. But, if we actually analyse our actions we might find that the reality is quite different! We should not just stop the environmental degradation, but promote its conservation, and above all, work towards its restoration. Are we really doing our bit, as an individual or just satisfying ourselves that we are?
Four of the biggest challenges that we face are:
  1. Climate change
  2. Pollution of air and water resources
  3. Deforestation
  4. Water scarcity.
So how we, as individuals, can contribute to environmental protection and restoration? Obviously by following practices which are environmentally friendly.
In my last blog I had mentioned about seed bombing an initiative by ffroge headed by Mr. VIKAS MAHAJAN. I would like to thank him for introducing me to this unique and simple way of contributing to the environment. For over 3 weeks I collected seeds of  fruits like Lychee,Sweet-lime,Watermelon,Melon,Lemon etc with the help of my mother and my neighbours.
I would like to specially thank aunty  Rashmi Paharia for her dedication and contribution of seeds.
On 4th June Vikas uncle organised a seed bombing workshop at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse which included a session on seed bomb making. I was unable to attend the session due to my on going IGCSE board examinations but I send my seeds to Nehal Aunty through my Mom whom I cannot thank enough for her constant support and encouragement. My Mom learned and made some seed bombs and I plan to make them after my exams.

Congratulations !!!  Vikas Uncle for being covered by Bombay Times on  WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY and inspiring younsters like me.... Looking forward to hold or attend a seed bombing workshop with your help and guidance. THANK YOU.

Update and the reason for being away from my blog

I know it has been ages since I even took out my laptop and the reason for that is my studies. I'am appearing for my boards currently and after November I got busy with my PRELIMS EXAMINATIONS and hence took a break from "NATURALIS". I take this oppurtunity to inform all my friends and family and my supporters that I have been able to sell environment friendly products worth Rs.12100.The total savings I have made to give back to the society is Rs.1815.Shortly I'am going to post after my boards the contribution made by NATURALIS to the society.

TODAY,after 6 months I'am updating my blog.Pleased to share that I'am joining ADITYA BIRLA WORLD ACADEMY FOR IBDP 2017-2019. It was a pleasant surprise to receive a 'Behatar India Competition "mail immediately after the orientation at my new school. I could have not dreamt for more -I  sincerely thank my school Aditya Birla World Academy for giving me this challenging oppurtunity to make a difference in the country through the Behtar India Competition. Under their umbrella I also foresee my passion of saving the environment as"Naturalis" being fulfilled.

I believe "No act of kindness,no matter how small,is ever wasted." and with this motto I urge all my family and friends to contribute towards the noble cause.

The details will be posted in my next blog.

I need to get back to my studies, but surely I will try to come up with more environment friendly actions, ideas and products.

Thank you,

Regards,

RAJVANSH

THIS DIWALI LETS BURST HUNGER AND NOT CRACKERS - BE A SOCIAL CRACKER !

Dear ALL,
It’s that festive time of the year again – celebrations, lights, sweets, and chocolates. It’s Diwali. Unfortunately, it’s also time for the usual noise and air pollution. But you can make a difference – by opting to celebrate the festival somewhat differently this year. Wondering how? We’ve got you covered! Here are ways in which you can celebrate an eco-friendly and guilt-free Diwali.
I was surfing the net and came across this unique Campaign which touched me immensely and I think its my social responsibility to help and spread the word of 24-year-old Saajan Abrol, a Gurgaon resident for a noteworthy cause.
Participate in this Unique Social Media Campaign – Burst Hunger Challenge

diwali1

24-year-old Saajan Abrol, a Gurgaon resident, has started a social media campaign called #BurstHungerChallenge. It’s a campaign with a twist – burst hunger, not crackers this Diwali. It works quite simply, really. Give something to a person in need – food, clothes, blankets, shoes, etc. Preferably something new, not leftovers or something you’re discarding. Take a picture or make a short video of this act of giving (yourself with the person who is receiving, or the receiver’s reaction to your gift, etc.)  and share it on social media with the message “Instead of bursting crackers, I pledge to burst hunger this Diwali – I accept the #BurstHungerChallenge.” Challenge five of your friends to do the same by tagging them in the post. Participate here : https://www.facebook.com/bursthunger/

PLEASE ! PLEASE! LIGHTEN THEIR HOMES BY NOT BARGAINING.

Engage Children in Activities Much More Interesting than Bursting Crackers

diwali 6

It’s Diwali. And it should be celebrated. But is bursting crackers the only way to do so? Both children and adults can be engaged in many different activities and spend the day in a more fruitful manner. For example, gather all the children in your building/society and take them for a nature walk the day before Diwali. Ask them to bring along their cameras, musical instruments, and even drawing books if they want. Spend some time observing the biodiversity in the nearest garden, park or field. And then get down to collecting dry leaves, grass, twigs, and more. On Diwali day, get these things together and organize a community bonfire in a common area. A self-made bonfire that also helps kids learn something about nature – now that’s truly eco-friendly!

Go Green When Planning Your Rangoli

diwali7

If you plan to make rangoli on Diwali, make sure you use organic and eco-friendly colours. Instead of using dyes and colours available in the market, just use what you have at home – turmeric for yellow and vermillion for red. You can also use flower petals, dried leaves, ground beetroot for a maroon mix, dried orange peels, etc. Look around and let your imagination loose.

How about making Diwali a day of other people’s happiness?

diwali8

Dress up. Pack a lot of sweets. And go out. Change Diwali into the day when you make other people happy. Go to your nearest old age home or an orphanage. Visit the people there, spend some time with them. Light diyas, distribute sweets and make it a happy day for them. Or maybe pack some food and distribute it among those who are spending Diwali homeless on the streets. It’s the festival of lights after all. How about spreading some joy?

LIGHT UP SMILES ALONG WITH DIYAS

Festival season at Kumbharwada, Dharavi

With Diwali around the corner, the kilns at Kumbharwada are going non-stop. If you go now, you will see women and men working round the clock, selling the diyas and decorative pots that have been made specially for the festive season.

There is something special about going to the source of a product and buying it directly from the community. To be able to do that in an urban environment like Mumbai is something even more special. Go visit Kumbharwada, buy some stuff!

Kumbharwada is really easy to get to. With Sion railway station on your right, walk towards Bandra. The first big left you see is called 90-Feet Road. About 500 meters down this road is Kumbharwada (on your left). http://goo.gl/maps/rvQDm

HAPPY DIWALI TO ALL...HAVE A SAFE AND GREEN DIWALI
